Living Stones

"As you come to him, the living Stone, rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him, you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house."

1 PETER 2:4-5

Built Together.

Peter does not call believers a crowd or an audience. He calls them stones, and he says what happens to stones: they are chosen, shaped, and set into a house.

Chosen

Christ is the living Stone, rejected by men and chosen by God. The stone the builders threw away turned out to be the one the whole structure rests on. That should mean something to any man who has been passed over, counted out, or told he was the wrong kind of material. In Him, you are chosen too.

Shaped

Stone gets cut, struck, squared and set. Nobody builds with a rock exactly as they found it.

Much of what a man resents about his life, the pressure and the responsibility and the demands that exceed him, is the chisel. Not punishment. Shaping. You are not finished, and you were never meant to build yourself.

Set beside other men

A single stone is a rock in a field. It becomes a wall when it is set against other stones, carrying weight and sharing it.

Scripture does not describe a man being built into a spiritual house alone. It describes stones, plural, being built together. That is the whole design, and it is why Stone & Psalm will not stay only a coffee company. A man needs other men around him who are under the same hand.

Come be set in the wall.

The Brotherhood is where that happens: men praying together, carrying weight together, and showing up for each other.
